Oil of the Week: Peppermint

Last (but not least), we’ll talk particulars of Peppermint in our final Oil of the Week installment.

Pass the Peppermint!

Peppermint is in the same family as Lavender. As a relative of the Swiss Army knife of Essential Oils, it’s not surprising that Peppermint is also a versatile, everyday oil. Most people have smelled or tasted Peppermint, but this mighty mint can do a lot more than spice up brownies (but really, these brownies are delicious).

Put some pep in your step by adding a drop of Peppermint to a glass of water or tea. We also love Peppermint for digestive support and post-workout massage. Tip: Only put Essential Oils in glass or stainless steel containers.

You can reach for Peppermint throughout your day! Here are a few tips to help you get started.

Digestive Support

Just like DiGize or Lemon, Peppermint helps support many facets of healthy intestinal function.

  • Travel: If plane travel gets you down, try inhaling Peppermint to calm down after takeoff.
  • Pregnancy: Oily mamas-to-be, give yourself a treat in those early days by inhaling or diffusing Peppermint.
  • Appetite: Take a bite out of overeating by inhaling Peppermint to satiate cravings before you cave.

All in Your Head

  • Head Support: Refresh head or sinuses by inhaling and/or applying Peppermint directly to your temples and back of neck.

Pro Tip: Peppermint is a hot oil, so test out your tolerance with a carrier oil before you try it neat.

  • Concentration: Try diffusing Peppermint and Lemon when tackling homework or projects that take focus.

De-Stress & Cool Down

  • Post Workout Massage: Treat tired muscles to a soothing Peppermint massage. Just dilute a few drops in your favorite carrier oil and apply as needed.
  • Cool Down: You can also use Peppermint as a way to cool down on a hot summer day. Try it on the back of your neck for a refreshing treat.

DIY Natural Solution

Clear your cobwebs and then mix up this DIY Spray to help keep your home pest free. Combine the following ingredients in an empty 16-oz glass spray bottle.

  • 5-7 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 1 Squirt of eco-friendly dish soap
  • 1 TB of white vinegar (optional)
  • Warm water

Then spray on window frames, doorways and the dark corners where unwanted creatures often hang out. Bonus: This spray is kid and pet friendly and smells great!

Oil of the Week: R.C. – Don't Leave Home Without It!

I have used R.C. for the past 15 years. It is an amazing blend formulated to maintain and support a healthy respiratory system. I always think (and tell people) It's kind of like that old MasterCard commercial – don't leave home without it!

When you see Young Living's R.C. Essential Oil, think respiratory support!

When you see Young Living's R.C. Essential Oil, think respiratory support!

All About R.C.

My Favorite Ways to Use It

One of my favorite ways to use R.C. takes just a couple of seconds. I drip a couple of drops in the palm of my hand, rub my hands together three times, cup my hands around my nose and mouth and then inhale it deeply. I love its invigorating scent!

Essential Oil Pro Tip: When I inhale an Essential Oil deeply several times, I move my hands away from my face when I exhale. This helps the essential oil not evaporate as quickly.

Here are a few more ways to try incorporating R.C. into your Essential Oil routine:

  • Rub R.C. on your feet or chest before exercise to uplift and inspire.
  • Massage three drops on your feet before bedtime to encourage an atmosphere of comfort.
  • Diffuse to create a comforting aroma.
  • Use in place of Aroma Siez™ in Young Living’s Raindrop Technique®.

The Ingredients

R.C.™ Essential Oil Blend is a unique combination of Cypress, Spruce, and three types of
Eucalyptus (E. globulus, E. radiata, and E. citriodora) oils, and includes the naturally occurring
constituent limonene.

Questions? Ask Away!

We'd love to help out with any questions you have about R.C. or any of the oils we discuss (and adore) on the blog! Leave us a comment or contact us today!

Oil of the Week: Thieves

To share my love of Young Living Thieves, I always start with a quick history lesson:

Thieves is a powerful blend inspired by the legend of four 15th-century French thieves. These thieves/perfumers formulated a special aromatic combination of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals to rob those who had died from the Black Plague. They were caught red-handed, convicted of their crimes and sentenced to be burned at the stake. However, the judges were astonished that the robbers had not caught the Black Plague, and in exchange for a lighter sentence, the thieves revealed their secret … and were hanged instead. Ok, so it was a silver lining for the thieves, but their ingenuity led to one of Young Living’s most popular oils.

Thieves contains Clove (an immune stimulant), Lemon (to promote health), Cinnamon Bark (a powerful purifier), Eucalyptus Radiata (for respiratory support) and Rosemary (an antioxidant).

Thieves contains Clove (an immune stimulant), Lemon (to promote health), Cinnamon Bark (a powerful purifier), Eucalyptus Radiata (for respiratory support) and Rosemary (an antioxidant).

How to Use Thieves Every Day

#1 Apply to Your Feet

This is the easiest oil to use in the Premium Starter Kit. All you have to remember is to apply to the bottom of your feet every day. (Remember the tip from our recent Lavender post about applying essential oils to the bottom of the feet because the pores are the largest?)

And that’s it!

Thieves is great to support the immune system, so you never want to go a day without it. Of course there are many other ways to use Thieves, but this is the simplest way to get started using your essential oils every day.

When the air outside becomes crisp and the days start getting shorter, you know it’s time to stock up on Thieves. Trust me! You don't know how many calls I get each Winter from panicked moms who just used their last drop of Thieves. Lucky for them, I keep several extras around for just these types of emergencies. Don't run out of Thieves!

#2 Diffuse (Diffuse, Diffuse!)

I use this oil in my main room diffuser all day, every day. I love how it smells, but even better, I know that my family is protected from whatever icky's that they encounter during the day or bring home with them. I also travel with my diffuser, when I arrive at my hotel room, I start the diffuser with Thieves and leave for a few hours. When I return, my room smells great and I have security and peace of mind. I love to add Orange, Tangerine or Nutmeg in the diffuser with Thieves for a little variety.

More Ways to Use Thieves

Creative Carpet Freshener

Got musty smells? Use a sprinkle shaker, fill with 1 cup baking soda, add 5 drops of Thieves, combine well. Let mixture sit overnight, so the oil has a chance to absorb. Sprinkle over carpets and vacuum thoroughly.

On-the-Go “Everything” Spray

Make your own Thieves Spray and use it everywhere. I put about 10-15 drops in a 4oz glass spray bottle. I spray it in a smelly car, in stinky shoes, on public toilet seats, on linens and pillows, on remote controls, in restaurants, on shopping carts, in laundry baskets or trash cans. One member even said they use it on money.

Love the Blend? Check Out the Thieves Line

Thieves is one of Young Living’s most popular products. If fact, Young Living has an entire line of Thieves Household Products and Personal Care Products. Everything from toothpaste to laundry soap. Be sure to check out all of the Thieves products so you can clean your home and have personal care products toxin free.

Thieves Vitality Tips

Thieves Vitality, same great essential oil blend, now bottled with a white label indicating that this oil can be used as a dietary supplement. I use this everyday to support healthy gums and teeth. I put one drop on my Thieves AromaBright Toothpaste. It makes my mouth feel so fresh, clean and healthy. I love the spicy flavor as well. It is also great as a mouthwash or to gargle to soothe mouth and throat.

Other uses for Thieves Vitality:

  • Add a drop to your daily NingXia Red shot.
  • Add 3-5 drops to a vegetable capsule with a fatty oil and swallow with water for overall wellness and immune support.
  • Add a drop to a cup of warm water, herbal tea or other hot drinks for a spicy zing.

Have any Thieves questions? Ask away in the comments! We’d love to help!

Oil of the Week: DiGize

One of the greatest things about essential oils is that they know how to do their job even better than we know how to use them. The proper use of an oil could promote normal and healthy functions of that particular body system.

If you and your family happen to eat food, DiGize should be one of your go-to oils. It helps support digestive and gastrointestinal systems as well as intestinal function.

No More 20 Questions for “Funny Tummy”

For instance, your little one comes to you, “Mommy, my tummy feels funny.” In the past, I would run down the list of possible causes. What did he eat? Has he pooped today? Has he had enough water to drink? Is it his stomach, his bowels, or something else?

That was my first child.

Now I don’t have to spend my time worrying about cause and effect, I can skip right to solution! Go get your DiGize!

With my second, things are easier. Even though my 6-year-old can’t quite read the labels, he has his own special bottle with a rollerball that he can identify. When his tummy needs some TLC, I just point to our oils cache. He knows where to find his DiGize, and brings it to me. No twenty questions, no worry, just God’s incredible design working for my kiddo.

Most Valuable (and Versatile) Travel Companion

For me, the oil that I used the most while in a foreign country was probably DiGize. My gut was not prepared for the AMAZING food … and questionable food preparation. My digestive system suffered a little, but only a little.

If my tummy felt funny, the DiGize was ready for action. And, yes, I did smell like peppermint and fennel most of my trip.

On a plane, DiGize. On a boat, DiGize. On a narrow, winding, boulder-strewn mountain path in a vehicle that was really only meant for smooth pavement, DiGize. Gorging myself on the best fish I’ve ever tasted, DiGize. Drinking water that was very suspicious, DiGize. Overheated from the tropical environment, DiGize. And let’s not forget when Aunt Flo comes to visit a few days out of the month, you’ve got it, DiGize.

Let’s Talk Application

  • Behind your ears is a great preemptive measure before riding in vehicles.
  • Rub a drop or two in a clockwise motion topically over the abdomen.
  • Use as a compress over the belly.
  • Inhale a little.
  • A drop or two of DiGize Vitality under your tongue after a heavy meal.
  • And of course, the Vita Flex Points on the ankles and the bottoms of the feet.

Let’s Break It Down

Here are the therapeutic grade essential oils (and their special properties) that make this blend so special:

  • Tarragon: promotes relaxation
  • Ginger: warm and calming
  • Peppermint: cooling and soothing
  • Juniper: supports plumbing efficiency
  • Fennel: supports overall digestive function
  • Lemongrass: uplifting and lymphatic system support
  • Anise: supports digestion
  • Patchouli: calming and relaxing

AND to Sum It Up!

All of these oils work together for the greater good of the gut.  Whether you need things to slow down, speed up, deflate, chill, or just run smoothly, DiGize can be that oil to support your well-oiled machine.

No 20 questions, just a drop or two. Questions? Leave them in the comments!

Oil of the Week: Lavender

Lavender...where to begin? So many uses, so little time! I don't know if I could think of one person who could not benefit from Lavender! We love having it in our family; all 4 of us have at least one way to use it on a regular basis.

Lavender: An Oil for Every Member of the Family

Lavender is versatile. We love it as a part of our nighttime routines, skin soothing support and, of course, its fresh scent. So many uses make it a great starter oil.

Lavender is versatile. We love it as a part of our nighttime routines, skin soothing support and, of course, its fresh scent. So many uses make it a great starter oil.

#1 Baby Benefits

This is my favorite way to use Lavender currently! I have a 10 month old who is not quite old enough to communicate why she may be fussing. Mamas, you know the drill:

  • Does she have a tooth pushing through?
  • Does she feel warm?
  • Is it a season change that’s causing the sniffles?
  • Is she restless?

You never quite know the answer! But I can tell you this, I always have the same answer...rub some lavender on! It is so versatile and supports so many systems that chances are, it will give her relief in one way or another!

I just apply it on her feet, and then on her chest for respiratory support and to help her relax.

Fun fact: Did you know our feet are our most porous part of our body? Apply an oil to the feet and it will absorb and know just the right spot to travel to!

#2 Toddler Triumphs

In addition to our sweet little girl, we have a sweet (but tough!) 31/2 yr old boy. I must say Lavender is great to have around for soothing the many bumps and bruises of toddlerhood! I apply straight on at times, or dilute with some coconut oil when he's a little more sensitive.

#3 Happy Hubby Habits

My husband has a lot of stress from day to day and needs a little extra assistance calming his mind at night. To help, we start it in the diffuser a little before bedtime. We both love how it promotes a relaxing atmosphere as we get ready for bed.

DIY Tip: I've heard of others making a linen spray and spraying it on their sheets and pillows as well!

#4 Mama Merits

As far as I'm concerned I have two favorite uses for lavender. Sorry I tried to narrow it down to just one, but I couldn't!

Game-Changer at Season Changes

The first is during the change of seasons. This was actually how I was introduced to essential oils! I used to battle sinus irritation whenever the temperature changed (which happens pretty frequently in Arkansas!). One weekend, I was staying with a dear friend who used essential oils. She recommended a few and after that I was hooked! Now when I sense a change in the weather I apply a drop or two directly over my cheekbones and along my neck. Sometimes, I put a drop under my tongue as well for quicker relief!

After-Sun Soother

I also have another dilemma: You see, I'm a girl who loves the sun! Like I really feel like I can never get enough of it! Unfortunately, my German descent doesn't agree with this. Yup, I have the blonde hair blue eyes and very very fair skin, so I usually have to suffer the consequences after a long day in the sunshine. This is where lavender becomes my best friend! When I get home or even throughout the day while I'm out, I take a few drops of lavender, mix it with coconut oil and rub it wherever needed! I love the smell of the coconut/lavender combo and it's very soothing to the skin!

Lavender Vitality: A Refreshing Recipe Addition

Another great way to use Lavender? In recipes! Yes, Young Living makes a Lavender Vitality oil that can be ingested!

Honey Lavender Lemonade

Check out this summertime favorite on the Young Living blog. It’s so cool and refreshing!!

Lavender Blackberry Scones

Take a good scone recipe and mix in a handful of blackberries. Then, make a frosting of powdered sugar, lemon juice and a drop of Lavender Vitality. Drizzle on top of your freshly baked scones....mmmm.

Here are a few other creative ways to use Lavender...

  • Add a drop of Lavender to your tube of mascara to support healthy lashes.
  • Add a few drops to wool dryer balls to refresh your laundry (I especially love to do this for our sheets and my little ones "blankies").
  • Get some raw Shea butter and mix with coconut oil, add a few drops of Lavender for a luxurious whipped body butter!
  • Apply a drop under the tongue or along the neck before mowing the lawn for preventative respiratory support.
  • Diffuse with other oils for a lovely smelling home. Some of my favorites to mix with are lemon, orange or eucalyptus blue.

What's your favorite way to use Lavender? We'd love to hear about it! Any questions? Contact me at inspirationsbyrae@gmail.com

Oil of the Week: Copaiba

Unlike most of us who are reading this, I did not get copaiba in my premium starter kit. I joined long before Young Living added this magnificent oil to the PSK. I actually learned about Copaiba from a co-worker at my corporate job when she mentioned how often she used the oil.

Copaiba is an enhancing oil. Anytime you apply an oil you can layer Copaiba on top of that to maximize the effectiveness and benefits you are receiving. Trust me, it is a great way to use Copaiba on a daily basis.

Copaiba is an enhancing oil. Anytime you apply an oil you can layer Copaiba on top of that to maximize the effectiveness and benefits you are receiving. Trust me, it is a great way to use Copaiba on a daily basis.

Cool Copaiba Benefits

I, being the oily geek that I am, immediately started to research. I was thoroughly amazed by all of the fantastic benefits. Here are a few, Copaiba...

  • Supports the respiratory, cardiovascular, urinary, and digestive systems
  • Supports a healthy mood
  • Supports your body’s response to irritation with special nutrient beta caryophyllene
  • Supports healthy gums and oral health
  • Exhibits cleaning power

That night, as soon as I got home, I added Copaiba to my Essential Rewards order and I have been using it regularly ever since.

Skin-tastic Copaiba Benefits

Oily mamas, listen up! One of the first ways I used this oil was for skin support. Like most first-time mothers my skin bears those familiar (but beautiful none the less) reminders that you once carried a baby. Did you know that copaiba is an emollient, and that copaiba oil may help boost the secretion of collagen and elastin in your body? No? Oh boy, this is going to be your new best friend! Try not to trip over the kiddo in your haste to get your oil out of the kit.

Even these past few days as I have researched and refreshed my memory on this Brazilian beauty, I am still awestruck at the sheer awesomeness that this bottle packs in each precious drop.

A Few More Fun Facts

Here are a few of the stunning facts that I rediscovered about copaiba:

  • The copaiba evergreen tree grows up to 100 feet and a single tree can offer up to twelve gallons of oil annually. It is distilled from a tapped tree, making it a sustainable rainforest resource.
  • Copaiba may be relatively new to the modern world, but it has been used by native Brazilians for at least 4 centuries.
  • Today in the United States, copaiba resin is used mostly as a soothing fragrance in soaps, bubble baths, detergents, creams, and lotions.
  • Most of the world uses it as a lacquer or varnish! What a huge loss this is! Or ... maybe not, since that means there is more of this beautiful oil for you and I to use!

So if you have yet to break open the seal of this magnificent oil from your starter kit, please take a moment to go do so now. I’ll wait for you to come back and smell its light woody and honeyed aroma.

Be sure to add it to your daily regimen to support all of those amazing body systems or enhance the benefits of other oils you use.

If you are running low on this Brazilian beauty be sure to add it to your ER order today, you will be so happy that you did (did I mention that this oil helps to brighten your mood already?)!

Oil of the Week: Purification, Always a Conversation Starter

"Your house smells so clean and fresh, what is that?"

"Thanks! It's Young Living Purification oil in my diffuser."

I cannot tell you how many times I've had this conversation. Even my seasoned oil users sometimes don’t believe that it's Purification because it smells so different in the diffuser than in the bottle. Although, it is called PURIFICATION ... so it shouldn't be surprising that it smells so pure and clean.

Diffusing, though, it just one of the many reasons that I LOVE Purification and why it is one of my favorite oils of all times. Let’s start with the basics:

Young Living Purification, a fresh blend of Citronella, Lemongrass, Lavandin, Rosemary, Tea Tree, and Myrtle essential oils.

Young Living Purification, a fresh blend of Citronella, Lemongrass, Lavandin, Rosemary, Tea Tree, and Myrtle essential oils.

Purification Essential Oil Blend helps freshen the air and eliminate odors with its unique combination of Citronella, Lemongrass, Lavandin, Rosemary, Tea Tree, and Myrtle essential oils, and naturally-occurring compounds cineol, neral, and geranial (research these compounds, it is very interesting information!).

Let’s break down some of those ingredients.

Citronella

Many of us know about citronella because it is an ingredient in almost every insect repellant on the market, but did you know it has many other useful qualities? For example, citronella can be relaxing, purifying to the skin, while also supporting the respiratory system and normal digestion. Citronella also has a very refreshing and uplifting scent. Great oil, huh?

Lemongrass

Historically, lemongrass has been used for purifying and supporting the digestive system but it can also help maintain healthy circulation and promote the lymphatic system. Lemongrass is also a great oil to massage on with some coconut oil to maintain healthy tissue and ligaments. Lemongrass is considered a “hot”oil; avoid skin irritation by diluting before application.

Lavandin

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is YL’s typical lavender that we all know and love. Lavandin is from our farm in Provence, France and it is actually a cross between our Lavandula augustifolia and spike lavender (Lavendula latifolia). Now, why would YL want to use Lavandin instead of Lavender in Purification oil?

I believe it is because Lavandin is known for its purifying constitutes  it is called Purification after all! In Europe, it's actually very common for veterinary clinics to clean their cages with Lavandin. Lavandin does have similar calming effects like Lavender, and may help support the respiratory system and promote healthy circulation.

Rosemary

Want a little history lesson after our science lesson above? Many of us know Rosemary is an ingredient in our beloved oil blend Thieves (do you know the story of Thieves?) but here is a lesson in ancient history about Rosemary. In ancient Greece (about 1,000 BC), rosemary was burned as an incense. Later cultures believed that it would ward off evil, a practice that would eventually become adopted by those who wanted to protect themselves, like modern day immune support! Rosemary may also support a healthy respiratory system and may help promote mental clarity and concentration.

Tea Tree

Tea Tree is a very popular oil. It has many uses that we have all come to know and love. Tea Tree has a very clean fresh scent and when applied to the skin may help promote healthy looking skin. Tea Tree is known for its purifying properties and may aid the body’s natural response to skin injury and irritations.

Myrtle

Myrtle oil has a mild smell but can punch powerful results! Myrtle is a gentle oil and is typically a “go to” for supporting the respiratory system in children. Myrtle may also help promote healthy skin and could be good to rub on after a hard workout. Myrtle is also referenced several times in Bible, here are a few places you can find it: Nehemiah 8:15, Isaiah 41:19, Isaiah 55:13 – enjoy!

So … do you love Purification yet? I DO! Here are some more product tips you might enjoy.

Product Tips:

  • Add Purification essential oil blend to your washing machine to freshen laundry.
  • Add a couple drops of Purification essential oil blend to shoes to help neutralize odors.
  • Add a few drops to a cotton ball to help eliminate stale air in the office or your child’s room.
  • Diffuse Purification essential oil blend to dispel unpleasant odors and clear the air of impurities (I love adding Orange Oil with it).
  • Diffuse Purification essential oil blend to eliminate odors after the dog returns from playing outdoors in the rain.
  • Apply topically when going outdoors for a pest-free experience.
  • Diffuse to repel bugs, insects and mice.
  • Add a drop or two to your favorite moisturizer morning and evening for healthy looking skin.
  • Apply to skin to aid the body’s natural response to skin irritation or injury.
  • Add a few drops to a glass spray bottle with water for a multipurpose spray solution (I NEVER leave home without this!).

Continue the Conversation

Of course, these are just a few ways to use Purification on a daily basis. No one home should be without it! What are some of your favorite ways to use Purification? Oil of the Week: Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)

Another week, another oil!  But first a challenge:

Oil of the Week Challenge

Choose an oil in your starter kit, use it and only it (if possible), for the entire week. Get to know that oil: diffuse it, inhale it, apply it, enjoy it. Know it so well that if it did not have a label, you would know it by smell. For some oils, that’s simple. For others, not so simple. Which oil will you try?

Oily Standby: Frankincense

Young Living farms this oil from the Frankincense trees in Salalah, Oman. It is steam distilled from the gum/resin after making cuts in the tree by hand.

Young Living farms this oil from the Frankincense trees in Salalah, Oman. It is steam distilled from the gum/resin after making cuts in the tree by hand.

Frankincense has a rich, deep, warm, sweet scent. It gives me a grounded, “cleansing breath” type feeling. I inhale deeply and exhale slowly, allowing its fragrance and frequency to wash over me.

Frankincense is my “go to” oil. I wear it daily. I use it often, and I use a lot. If I need a particular oil to perform in a particular way and I’m not getting the results I want, I always add frankincense! It acts as an enhancer and equalizer. What does that mean in my world? It just “kicks” everything up a notch! How? Let’s start with a little science behind this oil.

Oily Science: Frankincense Frequency

Frankincense has the highest frequency of any oil in your starter kit. Why is that important? “Measurements on the human body found that a healthy person has a frequency of 62-68MHz. When a person’s frequency dips to around 58MHz cold symptoms can manifest.”* As your body frequency lowers, problems can arise.

I want to feel my best. I want my body performing at the highest level possible. Every day. Keeping my frequency level high allows me wellness, and wellness is what I want from my oils! Maintenance and prevention are key. Frankincense is part of my daily regimen, not only when I am not at my best, but preventatively.

Oily Spirituality: Frankincense & Spiritual Grounding

I would be remiss not to mention the spiritual aspect of this oil. Frankincense is referenced in the Bible over 52 times. Historically, it is a holy oil in the Middle East.  “As an ingredient in the holy incense, it was used anciently during sacrificial ceremonies to help improve communication with the Creator.”**

Oily Sense: Frankincense Day-to-Day

What can frankincense do? In my opinion, just about anything! In fact, I think it can be beneficial in EVERY body system! When I apply it, I don’t always know where it is going in my body, or what it is doing, but I do know I’m getting a boost of health and wellness by raising my body frequency.

Young Living thinks frankincense is vital for health and wellness, too. You will find frankincense as an ingredient in over 55 oils and/or products in the catalog; facial products, oil blends, soaps, body washes, sprays, supplements, oral care products, children’s products and more!

For all you list-y people out there, here are a few reasons to reach for Frankincense. It is an oil that:

  • Promotes healthy looking skin/hair/nails
  • Promotes healthy respiratory function
  • Supports mood by uplifting and encouraging positive energy
  • Supports the immune system
  • Promotes healthy nervous system
  • Promotes mental health

Let’s get practical. Here are a few ways you can try applying frankincense today:

  • Behind your ears or on your neck as a perfume
  • In your diffuser on a cloudy day
  • Over your heart and on your temples before meditation
  • On your chest before bed
  • On any unsightly or compromised skin area
  • In your daily moisturizer, or with coconut oil as a moisturizer
  • On a pregnant belly
  • On the feet of the elderly
  • In a diffuser at a hospital
  • On the crown of the head for anointing
  • On the breast area combined with Orange essential oil
  • On your feet for immune support
  • On your brain stem when concentrating

Oil of the Week: Stress Away

STRESS-AWAY : verb pronounced \ˈstres-ə-ˈwā\! Seems pretty self-explanatory right? Well it is, but oh it is so much more.

Stress Away: Self-Explanatory? Not So Fast.

How does Stress Away help keep stress away? The perfect combination of Copaiba, Lime, Cedarwood, Ocotea and Lavender, of course.

How does Stress Away help keep stress away? The perfect combination of Copaiba, Lime, Cedarwood, Ocotea and Lavender, of course.

Ingredient #1: Copaiba

Stress Away contains the essential oil Copaiba. Copaiba contains B-caryophyllene. Why, yes it does. So are you wondering why we care about B-caryo…whatever? Let me fill you in. It is a chemical present in numerous plants including Cannabis which is being studied at fervent levels for being able to assist in feeling anxious and other emotional support concerns, among many other human issues.

Ingredient #2: Lime

Stress Away also contains lime. You should really look up lime, because it has a tremendous benefits including emotional, skin and lymphatic system support...just to get you curious. It also has a really fresh smell and taste.

Ingredient #3: Cedarwood

Stress Away also contains cedarwood. We can guess how God feels about cedarwood since the sacrifices were often given in recipes calling for cedarwood (Lev 14 and Num 19), and Solomon’s Temple, was made of cedarwood (1 Kings 6). Can’t you just close your eyes and take yourself there?

Cedarwood is my nite-nite oil when I am overwhelmed (that isn’t a disease condition yet is it?).  Cedarwood is full of sesquiterpines, which means it is heavier and the smell will hang with you a little longer, and who doesn’t want that?

Ingredient #4: Ocotea

Next is Ocotea. This is one of my personal favorites. I have been able to curb my sugary food cravings by dropping one drop under my tongue when I am feeling naughty. I don’t know if they were thinking of me when they made this oil, but I am a comfort eater when I get stressed, so having this little beauty in Stress Away is like – BONUS!

Ingredient #5: Lavender

And last, but not least, is lavender. I don’t need to tell you how this oil has been celebrated, all over the world throughout all time, for its relaxing and soothing properties.

How To: Get Your Stress Away On!

So all that information to say what? Get your Stress Away on! Give it to your friends, your neighbors, your family. First up, PanAway by Alexis Peters.

The PanAway Power Play

The last 4 years of my life have been a whirlwind. In February 2012, my husband and I were in a head-on car collision on the way to work. One long month in the hospital and 2 major surgeries later, I was on the road to recovery. It was the scariest, hardest, most full of love and support time of my life.

I’m thankful to report that the rest of the whirlwind has been a different journey altogether -- bringing two sweet boys into the world. I’ve come a long way since the wreck and surgeries, but the equation of spinal fusion, two pregnancies and caring for two small children leaves me with lots of aches by the end of each day. Not to mention my postpartum exercise program I’ve added back into my life for the last 3 months or so.

That’s why I’ve really connected with the blend PanAway. It’s designed to:

  • Support stressed muscles
  • Support healthy circulation
  • Help alleviate head tension
  • Prepare the body for a workout

Pick a bullet point, and I’m there at some point of the day. Find out how you can harness the power of PanAway in your own routine. But first, a little background.

What’s in PanAway, Anyway?

Think "Pain Away" when you see PanAway. This mix of Wintergreen, Helichrysum, Clove & Peppermint helps soothe minor muscle aches and head tension.

Think "Pain Away" when you see PanAway. This mix of Wintergreen, Helichrysum, Clove & Peppermint helps soothe minor muscle aches and head tension.

PanAway is an essential oil blend. So it’s a mix of several therapeutic-grade essential oils:

  • Wintergreen
  • Helichrysum
  • Clove
  • Peppermint

These oils work together to soothe minor aches and penetrate skin for optimal benefit.

Sensitive Skin Watch

PanAway can possibly cause skin sensitivity. Test PanAway on a small skin patch before massaging further. Dilute with your favorite massage oil or carrier oil (I’ve tried Jojoba with great success) to help lessen your chances of irritation and to stretch the blend if you want to massage a larger part of your body (e.g. your back).

Going Deeper: Perfect Pairings

Add more Helichrysum for a deep tissue massage. For additional bone support, more Wintergreen may be applied.

4 Ways to Use PanAway

#1: Muscle Out Minor Muscle Aches:

Option 1: Massage.

Step 1: Dilute 1-2 drops PanAway with your favorite carrier oil (coconut or olive oil are 2 other options).

Step 2: Massage directly on your stressed, tired muscles after a workout or a day chasing babies.

Option 2: Warm Compress:

For prolonged soothing, try a warm compress. Perfect end to a long day!

Step 1: Apply 1-3 drops of PanAway plus carrier oil on location or along spine.

Step 2: Cover with a hot, damp towel.

Step 3: Layer on a dry towel, leave for 10 minutes to half an hour.

#2: Circulation Support

Step 1: Dilute 1-2 drops PanAway with your favorite carrier oil.

Step 2: Massage on location in the direction of your heart (e.g. for legs, start at your ankle and work your way up).

#3: Head Tension

Work toward calm with these tips.

Option 1: Aromatically

Diffuse PanAway or apply 1 drop to hands, rub them together and inhale.

Option 2: On Location

Rub 1-2 drops diluted PanAway on temples and back of neck.

#4: Work Out Your Workout

Apply to the neck before your workout for invigorating respiratory and muscular support.
